WMSU High School Bags Awards in Red Cross Youth Camp 2009!

After so many years, the WMSU-Integrated Laboratory High School joined this year's Red Cross Youth Camp from October 29-31, 2009 at the Abong-Abong Park, Zamboanga City in joyful celebration of the Red Cross Youth Month bearing the theme "Our World...YOUth Move!". As promised, WMSU-High School delegates not only went home with smiles on their faces, but also brought home the bacons!

Before the Camp
To make sure that we would not encounter any problems regarding the food, materials, and others, the campers and I conducted a meeting where we talked about coming up with groups to lessen the expenses for food. In this meeting, we also discussed designation of participants for the various competitions, such as the hip-hop dance and others. When I looked at the faces of my students, I told them  "I smell victory" because the batch of campers this year is composed of enthusiastic prodigies. Ahmadjan, Marjorie, Sherhana, Danielle, Mu'ammar, JC, Irvin, and Katrina are just some.

To make sure that the participants will be well-trained, I requested Al-Nherick and his classmates to coach the HS students for the hip-hop dance. Moreover, to get the best of eveything, I tapped Ma'am Sheryl Pangilinan and Sir Mark Tolentino to be my co-advisers being truly ever-ready and skillful mentors who became a big part of our victory.

To make sure that the campers will not worry about their resources, their parents and I met to discuss about their transportation and the materials to use for their food. The parents were so eager to help and they even contributed many creative inputs for a conducive camping.

During the Camp
Day 1
After getting off the WMSU bus and registering, all of us set up the tents and waited for the opening program. We like the "Get to Know You" activity in which the organizers came up with subcamps where the members came from various schools to socialize with everyone. Indeed, all the campers had new-found friends. Later that night, the hip-hop dance competition was held. We were already so sure that AEMSHS would be the champion because they were so well-rehearsed and they had good costumes, and we accepted it very gladly. We are happy for them. WMSU won second place.

Day 2

Early in the morning, the campers went out to swim in the river, afterwhich they went up in the hills to plow the land and plant some trees (real-life Farmville). In the afternoon, they had series of activities by subcamp. The activities were: blindfolded walk, egg hunting, silent construction, needle shooter, fill me up, mystery egg, and wheel carrying. Everyone really enjoyed.

At night, the Halloween Costume Contest and the Mr and Ms Red Cross Youth 2009 Pageant were held where the WMSU HS participants emerged victorious. I even said to myself, "I gotta feeling that tonight's gonna be a good night!" and I was so right.  The crowd cheered loudly when WMSU contestants for the Halloween Costume walked their way up to the stage in a very unique choreography. The male contestant acted like a real monster, crawling on the stage with a beastly look, while our females contestant appeared on the stage with a glamorous aura in a fiery red costume, a villain with a very enchanting look. Our reigning High School winners, talented and smart, will represent Zamboanga City in the upcoming Regional Mr. and Ms. Red Cross. That night was full of excitement and the crowd was really cheering for each of their respective candidates. Of course, since WMSU had the most number of participants, its name was the most noticeable among others.

Day 3

This is the last day at the camp, but the students wanted more. Everyone was still excited for any surprised activities, and all students wanted to stay even longer. The awarding ceremony and closing program were held at 9 a.m. Councilor Gerky Velasco was there to give inspirational messages and to encourage the young ones to continue being Red Cross members. Dr. Victor Liozo praised the campers for the positive attitude they have shown throughout the camping days and congratulated them for exhibiting virtues expected of a high school student and Red Crosser.

The camp was indeed one of the events that the students will always remember and cherish because they found many good friends and they learned a lot from this experience.

Greenwich Pizza Making Camp

Last Thursday, October 22, many of the faculty members of WMSU-ILHS went to Greenwich in Mindpro to attend the workshop on making pizzas. All of us were very excited to do our pizzas. We had even kept on talking about the activity even before we went to the destination. Because of the excitement, some of us were busy taking pictures in the establishment, so we will have something to cherish about the experience. Before we did our own pizzas, the Greenwich crew started the workshop with a rebus game, which kept the teachers so alive because everybody was so eager to give the correct answer. After this, we were oriented with the proper way of washing hands, and we were also led to the cooking place. Then, we were already given the ingredients and materials for our pizza and later the instructions on how to make a simple pizza. After placing all the toppings, we placed our individual pizzas to the oven. After 3 minutes, the newly-made and fresh-from-the-oven pizza was ready to eat. Ms. Edita Chan exclaimed, "This is really a wonderful experience." Prizes and freebies had been given before the end of the session. Everybody went home with a smile.

10 Tips to Earn Coins and Level Up in Farmville

Admit it, you’ve played FarmVille. Heck, you’re probably just as addicted to it as I am. I feel I’ve accomplished a lot on my farm and I’d like to share my 10 FarmVille tips with you! Happy Farming!

1. Invite your friends to be your neighbors. This will help you unlock ribbons (which gives you some extra cash and XP) and allows you to unlock additional farm sizes.

2. Send gifts to your FarmVille friends as much as you can. They will appreciate it and return the favor. When a friend send you a gift, keep it in your gifts box. The more unique gifts you can get, the more ribbons you will unlock.

3. Try to focus on using seeds. Seeds are cheap and are currently much easier to mass produce than trees and animals.

4. Buy seeds according to the amount of time you play. If you play all day, buy seeds like raspberries, as they are ready to harvest in 2 hours. If you only play once a day look into seeds that take a day (or more) to grow.

5. Buy the tractor when you have the required level and money. Not only does it save time, it gives you a large amount of XP which helped me gain 2 levels in 2 minutes!

6. Check out the ribbons (achievements) you can earn, as these will earn you money and XP if you achieve them. The early ribbons have small rewards, but as you advance towards the blue ribbon the rewards become more hefty.

7. When are able to buy a larger property, buy it. This will help you with mass production, which is what you want to succeed as a farmer in FarmVille.

8. Set a timer to remind you when your crops will be ready to harvest. Last thing you want is to open FarmVille and find all your raspberries withered. This can turn into a big deal if you have a huge farm full of withered crops.

9. Unless you are trying to achieve ribbons, try not to buy many decorations or buildings, these cost money and take up valuable space! Sell them once you get your achievement, that way you get spare coins and more free space for crops.

10. Place everything you own as close together as possible; leave no empty space on your lot! You can never plow all of your land, there is always that little spot that will stay unplowed. Fill it with trees and animals, this way every inch of your land is making you money!
